YOU CANT BEAT THAT WITH A BIG STICK!!!

Then as is usual when I am just looking to get a game I sometimes change my mind before the order ships to me. They rolled with the punches with that as well!!! Great group of people, I would love to work there, but I would be living in a game box as all my money would go back to them... If you can't find a hard to get game, they usually will have it, if not right then, within a week or 2. I would NOT hesitate to deal with them ever! Ask for Rick, or Aaron both great guys!!!
I also got a great deal on GMT's SPQR deluxe ed with 2 modules those being 3 and 5 and the SPQR gamer's guide all in one package. SPQR has been out of print for sometime so really looking forward to this also! I just hope that given my local gaming environment(lack of players) that it is solo play capable to a pretty good level.
Rick and Aaron have always been great to deal with!!! Aaron seems to be faster/more attentive than Rick but both are great! If you ever need some used games and haven't heard of Noble Knight games check them out...
We have been playing throughout the year via skype despite the fact he lives within 100 miles of me, our schedules as far as including travel time precludes F2F. That said we will be starting ASL Scenario E this coming Tuesday and hope to publish my first AAR on this game. I probably should have used some of our other smaller scenarios that we played but this one is one of my favorites "from back in the day", so I will give it a go.
We probably won't get much past the 2nd turn as I have to go in for surgery if you wanna call it that, to have some bad calls removed via colonoscopy early in the afternoon and need to get a few things done before I go in. So just wanted to post this as an update...more on the game soon.....RazorOne223http://www.blogger.com/profile/14009244347004980464noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7416946402892263207.post-55198095467768252092014-08-21T08:02:00.004-07:002014-08-21T09:23:44.868-07:00Finally got the core modules I needed and one added bonus!I have been needing to get the following:

Croix de Guerre
Armies of Oblivian

And

A Bridge to Far.

Well I finally got them all, I was really psyched about getting all of these. The one caveat to A Bridge to Far is that it was missing the British Airborne counters and the "Blue" German counters. I believe those were counter sheets 1 and 4. Oh well some day perhaps I can get them from someone that only wanted the set for the "Black SS" counters. So the "Collection" is looking good, although I STILL haven't played a live game since I started collecting ASL stuff around the end of last year, something of which I am more than a little disappointed about, it is what it is. I will post something on this topic separately as it has gotten very much under my skin...at some point...RazorOne223http://www.blogger.com/profile/14009244347004980464noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7416946402892263207.post-85861708111216369232014-01-15T15:17:00.000-08:002015-01-19T14:52:32.868-08:00Just a quick post to add my latest items for Advanced Squad LeaderI have the following items that just arrived,

Crucible of Steel
Blood and Jungle

Both of these are from Bounding Fire Productions, and let me tell you these 2 modules are very nice indeed production wise! One could even go so far as to say better than MMP in many ways. The boards are fantastic, the counters are the real treasure in these packs along with the scenario cards. The scenario cards are on a thick glossy card stock and they are in color! everything is color but the text, so all the counters appear on the scenario cards as they would appear in your counter tray. I wish all manufacturers would go to this in their scenario cards.
The counters are also done in color with camo paint and national flags on the rear of captured Russian tanks in German service in the Crucible module. Blood and Jungle is just like this!!! I would recommend these guys completely in so far as production quality. I can't speak for the scenarios yet but my friend and I may play BFP-34 from Blood and Jungle next Tuesday, if we can decide on which scenario to play. ;)

Next week I should have the following arriving:

Doomed Battalions
Hollow Legions

Now all I am lacking of my core ASL modules are:

Kampfe Group Pieper I and II

I also have 2 Critical Hit products coming to fill out the French early war OOB since the MMP module Croix De Guerre is so hard to find and pricey to get if you do find it. Also getting a dice tower and want to get a set of the Battle dice in 16mm or 5/8in size. They are just pricey for a pair of dice and I am still trying to convince myself on these.
Also coming is a set of the US/British Turret counters from CounterSmith. I am hoping to get the German ones some time soon. So that's it for now... Sorry no more painting on here anymore at least for a while, just done painting for nothing, hence why I am going to a board game. Opponents are readily available for board games.

Cheers...
For me that was my golden age for wargaming. I used to live in the south east US and thought that finding wargaming people to play with was difficult but didn't know what difficult was till I came out here, but that's covered in another post. Anyway for those that don't know Advanced Squad leader or ASL as we call it is a squad lvl game with individual tanks and guns with a hex on the map boards covering 40m. It is a very intensive game on the rules side but incredibly fun once you get a hang of things.

Also managed to pick up ASL Journal #2 which is hard to find and pricey as 1st Ed.

Anyway the collection so far is:
ASL rule book Version 2.0 from MMP
Beyond Valor from Avalon Hill 1st Ed.
Yanks from Avalon Hill
West of Alamein from MMP
For King and Country from MMP
Last Hurrah from Avalon Hill
Rising Sun from MMP. this is a massive Pacific theater expansion I mean large!

And historical modules I have:
Red Barricades from Avalon Hill out of print and VERY pricey!
Valor of the Guards from MMP
Festung Budapest from MMP

I still want to get the following core and historical modules:
Blood Reef Tarawa
KampfGruppe Pieper I
KampfGruppe Pieper II
Doomed Battalions
Hollow Legions
Operation Iwo Jima

So for any of you Advanced Squad Leader Grognards in the Sacramento area want to get together and have a steady ASL player and place to play, drop me a line...I have 2 gaming tables setup the are 6x4.

1. Trades offered between the two have be very good.
2. on a couple of occasions I changed my mind on things add and or subtracting items as my simple mind worked, and they were most gracious and very patient.
3. Items were shipped quickly and on time.
4. I am scheduled to receive my first box from the from the first transaction of two on Saturday via FEDEX as they apparently deliver then.
5. I would NOT for one second have second thoughts about dealing with them.

SO with that said, I did want to add that they are not giving me anything or compenating me for these statements. They are just that good!!!

Anyway I have been sitting on a 2nd edition Tractics by Gary Gygax from 1976 and have worked out a trade for it and some other stuff for the ASL rules and 2 modules, Beyond Valor and Last Hurrah. I am hoping to have them before my next gaming group meeting later this month. I can not wait! Since not having any SL/ASL stuff in my house since 2006 I was kinda Jones-ing for lack of a better term. I can not wait till they arrive! enough said...:)RazorOne223http://www.blogger.com/profile/14009244347004980464noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7416946402892263207.post-37081723039137073452013-11-27T05:49:00.001-08:002013-11-27T05:49:17.196-08:0028mm Perry French Hussars command stand for 5th HussarsOkay next up is the Perry 28mm Plastic French Hussars, I painted them up to be the 5th. I think the colors may be to light but I used they guy that does the "Over open sights" blog as my model and his appeared to be very light as well. These have been dipped in strong tone and then anti-shine sprayed. Now to finish the rest of the unit. I am basing all of my 28mm Napoleonics for General D' Brigade but these can also be used for other rules like Lasalle.
I did not even notice it till I saw the photo's! dang age...lol They are pretty nice figures and go together well. I used kite shields on these as well as the infantry to give them a distinctly Norman appearance as opposed to having some round shields mixed in making them look somewhat Frankish. The shields are also hand painted...
I have not been overly fond of wargames factory miniatures as they are done with CAD and just don't have the detail you get from other plastic miniatures makers, they are also very frail! the spears break off just taking them out of my GW carrying case with the Red foam inserts. This has been very disappointing at best! The spear while looking to scale are just WAY to thin and snap right where the spear and hand come together. Anyway here are 2 units of 8 warriors each, I hand painted the shields on all my figures as I can't afford transfers presently. The skin areas need to be lightened as the dip appears to have washed out the detail I had done on the faces and hands. Also need to touch up the edge of the bases with black and sorry for the mish mash of bases with some being hex, I am scrounging through my bits to get these based.
Anyway I lost the paper handout that had the painting diagrams and flags, for the life of me I can't find them and it is irritating at best! I just dipped these and got them anti-shine sprayed, but they still need to be touched up perhaps. I painted them up as the 1st Silesian Regiment along with associated Jaegers. I will still need to dig up a flag and being of limited funds right now to buy a flag set is out of the question. Here they are, I still do greatly prefer Metal miniatures over plastic, I like the weight and detail you get from metals.
Here is the German MG42 Team from Warlord, they are cast very well and fit together perfectly! My one and only complaint with Warlord games is that I wish they included bases with every box or blister they sell. IN the states I can not get the round bases they use and have to settle for pilfering from my Napoleonic's Cavalry bases that I have. So here are a couple of pictures... I still need to dip these I see...damn I thought I had them finished.
Sorry about the pictures, I really need some photography pointers. Anyway I really, really enjoy the Bolt Action Medal figures but I am kinda a purist so to speak in that I greatly prefer metal of plastic figures. So when I have more time and better light I will also take some pics of or stuff I have done. After looking at the pictures closer I need to hit them with a better coat of Army painter anti-shine to over come the shine from the Army Painter dip.

All of these are 28mm.
1. SAGA 6pt Viking war-band
2. SAGA 6pt Norman war-band
3. SAGA 6pt Anglo-Saxon/Dane war-band

Also did up a unit of 36 Perry 28mm Prussian Infantry as well as the Jaegers that came with them. and also working on a set of Perry French 28mm 5th Hussars

But all those will be posted later.

So anyway here are the Para's
Therefor here is the list I have to chose from, please keep your selections to those listed below, UNLESS you have an exceptional reason for a different set.

1. General D' Brigade Deluxe Edition.
2. Republic To Empire.
3. Lasalle.

Could you please give your opinion for which of the above and what makes them the "best" in your opinion. I have both 15mm and 28mm armies from several nations painted over the years to chose from to play them with.

Thank you very much in advance for your opinions and time.

Cheers.RazorOne223http://www.blogger.com/profile/14009244347004980464noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7416946402892263207.post-66944906545514485522013-11-01T06:14:00.001-07:002013-11-01T07:09:10.683-07:00Warlord Games Bolt Action British Para'sWell finally got some pictures out of my camera and onto my PC. These are Warlord Games British Para's that I have been working on for the last week or so. The castings are typical of Warlord games, very good! They also paint up nicely as well. So anyway here are some pictures of them. Also please remember I am having to paint with numb hands so they are not as good as other stuff you have seen on their blogs. I did my standard of late of painting up the base colors on the mini then dipping in Army Painter strong tone then after that drys using anti-shine and high lighting them. I hope you like them.
The first being...

1. Bolt Action - British Para's
2. Bolt Action - Late War WWII Herr infantry
3. SAGA - Viking 6 pt warband

Now here's the rub, my card reader has decided to act like Napoleons Cuirasier at Waterloo = err (spent)! So despite my best efforts I have not been able to get my images from camera to PC and the onto my blog. I will be working on getting this up and fixed soon so that I can get this done. So there will be content to look at shortly.RazorOne223http://www.blogger.com/profile/14009244347004980464noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7416946402892263207.post-48889428406115703232013-10-19T03:52:00.002-07:002013-10-19T04:04:15.410-07:00After seeing what happened to BEASTS OF WAR....I decided to remove ALL of my content that pertains to my Games Workshop products, after all I wouldn't want any legal troubles from GW. I have also sold all, I mean ALL of my 9 WHFB armies and 7 40k armies. I am sorry to have to do this but I will also Never buy another GW product again, as have ALL of my gaming friends. This decision had been made long before this due to constant price increases, but what the "Legal Eagle's" did in respect to BOW, we are done, ALL DONE!!! Hell the game wasn't that good anyway, any more IMHO! Since there are PLENTY of other makers of fine makers of mini's and rules etc to make this a "Painless" prospect to accomplish... GW don't piss on your supporters, they might just turn the fan around to point back to you...

Good Bye....RazorOne223http://www.blogger.com/profile/14009244347004980464noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7416946402892263207.post-38847385826705710962013-10-18T04:34:00.001-07:002013-10-19T03:41:17.037-07:00Well I am back, for what it's worth...I have had some issues with nerve damage in my spine that makes my hands numb and I can not feel light pressures very well especially with my right hand, and I am right handed. I have not done any painting in well over a year now if not longer but am going to try to paint again. I can not stand it any longer. When you see new stuff posted here after this date, please keep that in mind. I am struggling with this right now.RazorOne223http://www.blogger.com/profile/14009244347004980464noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7416946402892263207.post-71249650508250135532012-02-16T17:58:00.000-08:002012-02-16T17:58:28.604-08:0028mm OG foot SamuraiI finished these a bit ago but just finished basing them. I found a box of washers in my toolbox that happen to be 20mm outside diameter so they were used on this project. I will use them for the whole lot of Samurai I am doing. On these I hi lighted them some after the dip to help them get "bright" again so to speak. After all have you ever seen a dirty Samurai? ;) The back banners are from the Wargames factory Ashigaru plastic boxed set. Again sorry for the crappy pics...
These are Old Glory from the Samurai line, which I find very good. These were finished with Warlord Games Strong tone dip brushed on as I usually do. I am debating doing some hi lighting on the brighter colors to make them stand out more. I did do this on the foot Samurai I will post later, so you will be able to see the difference.
These are OG Mounted Samurai Bowmen. I do like the OG figures in their Samurai range they appear to be better than a lot of the other ranges IMHO. These are painted up for the Sengaku period but not specific to any army yet, although I do have 2 armies in mind as I generally have to build both sides of the table forces wise so to speak. These were "dipped" using Warlord Games quick shade strong tone. Anyway here they are.
I need some comments on what is done so far what looks good and doesn't. They are in a basic WIP right now so no where near finished. These are Old Glory figures, which I was pleasantly surprised to see cast very well. Anyway I an doing the Sengaku Period for both of the armies I will be painting. As I have few to no partners to play games with that have mini's I have to build and paint both sides as I am sure you have figured out from previous works I have posted here. That goes for everything I want to do with historicals in this area. Anyway here they are, I need constructive criticism good or bad, things you like and things I need to change.
This time the 4th CacadoresI have had all these AB mini's in my mini storage for sometime and havent done anything with them since I got on my 28mm ancients kick. Anyway as usual AB's are the best, but you all know that, these are painted as the 4th Portuguese Cacadores. I really liked the the brown with the light blue contrast. I am playing around with my camera trying to learn it better and playing with exposure compensation etc as normally my pictures are less then good. I also re-did the AB British 44th Infantry in my last post so go back and look at the pictures.

I just finished these guys up a little while ago, I am trying a basing method I used to use for FOW stuff when I collected them, it's called Pumice basing material from vallejo. The pumice is like a runny paste for lack of a better term, kinda like very wet sand and you put it on with a brush at least I do, it is water based so rinse your brushes out well when you are done. I kinda get a bunch of the pumise stuff on my brush and put it around the mini's until the base is done. I then let it dry and paint it with graveyard earth or Vallejo Flat Earth, then flock it and done. I decided to paint them up as the 44th(East Essex) , no reason in particular except I wanted some yellow facings. The flags are off of the internet from war flags I think and they don't appear to be scaling well as they are pixelating Anyway here they are...I noticed after posting that the pictures are blurry, this photographay stuff is going to be the bain of me! I guess I can photograph a tutorial of how I do the pumice basing at some point, would you all like that?
