28mm OG foot Samurai

I finished these a bit ago but just finished basing them. I found a box of washers in my toolbox that happen to be 20mm outside diameter so they were used on this project. I will use them for the whole lot of Samurai I am doing. On these I hi lighted them some after the dip to help them get "bright" again so to speak. After all have you ever seen a dirty Samurai? ;) The back banners are from the Wargames factory Ashigaru plastic boxed set. Again sorry for the crappy pics...

I finished these up several days ago along with some foot Samurai which I will post later. These are Old Glory from the Samurai line, which I find very good. These were finished with Warlord Games Strong tone dip brushed on as I usually do. I am debating doing some hi lighting on the brighter colors to make them stand out more. I did do this on the foot Samurai I will post later, so you will be able to see the difference.

28mm OG Mounted Samurai Bowman

I decided to skip all the WIP posts for obvious reasons and just post the final result prior to basing. These are OG Mounted Samurai Bowmen. I do like the OG figures in their Samurai range they appear to be better than a lot of the other ranges IMHO. These are painted up for the Sengaku period but not specific to any army yet, although I do have 2 armies in mind as I generally have to build both sides of the table forces wise so to speak. These were "dipped" using Warlord Games quick shade strong tone. Anyway here they are.

28mm Samurai Infantry WIP

Okay so I finally got the guts up to try to paint my Samurai. I need some comments on what is done so far what looks good and doesn't. They are in a basic WIP right now so no where near finished. These are Old Glory figures, which I was pleasantly surprised to see cast very well. Anyway I an doing the Sengaku Period for both of the armies I will be painting. As I have few to no partners to play games with that have mini's I have to build and paint both sides as I am sure you have figured out from previous works I have posted here. That goes for everything I want to do with historicals in this area. Anyway here they are, I need constructive criticism good or bad, things you like and things I need to change.

More Napoleonics painted in the last couple of days. This time the 4th Cacadores

I have had all these AB mini's in my mini storage for sometime and havent done anything with them since I got on my 28mm ancients kick. Anyway as usual AB's are the best, but you all know that, these are painted as the 4th Portuguese Cacadores. I really liked the the brown with the light blue contrast. I am playing around with my camera trying to learn it better and playing with exposure compensation etc as normally my pictures are less then good. I also re-did the AB British 44th Infantry in my last post so go back and look at the pictures.

I just finished these guys up a little while ago, I am trying a basing method I used to use for FOW stuff when I collected them, it's called Pumice basing material from vallejo. The pumice is like a runny paste for lack of a better term, kinda like very wet sand and you put it on with a brush at least I do, it is water based so rinse your brushes out well when you are done. I kinda get a bunch of the pumise stuff on my brush and put it around the mini's until the base is done. I then let it dry and paint it with graveyard earth or Vallejo Flat Earth, then flock it and done. I decided to paint them up as the 44th(East Essex) , no reason in particular except I wanted some yellow facings. The flags are off of the internet from war flags I think and they don't appear to be scaling well as they are pixelating Anyway here they are...I noticed after posting that the pictures are blurry, this photographay stuff is going to be the bain of me! I guess I can photograph a tutorial of how I do the pumice basing at some point, would you all like that?

10mm OG and mixed Napoleonic Russians that I have that need to find a new home

Okay I got a big bunch of 10mm Napoleonic Russians some painted some not that I got from my Friend Kent at 15mm Paint Shack about 2 years ago. Anyway I have come to the conclusion that I am just not going to get around to painting them and using them. I already have 28mm and 15mm Napoleonics and just think a 3rd scale is rather pointless at least for me. Anyway If you are interested in a trade of some sorts get in touch with me and we can work something out. I can get pictures taken for you to see what I have...

Finished these the other day and saved the pics till today, not that it matter much... Anyway I hope you like them. As above these are the Plastic Warlord Games Dacian Warhost boxed set. The only thing I really don't like with plastics is the time wasted putting these together. I still have 3 more boxes to paint but I will spare you a bunch of the same. That said here they are... I did my usual AP "dip procedure" that I usually do, mainly just to get them on the table, not comp painting. Right now I am debating about devoting any further time to this blog, so let me know if this is useful to you and I should keep going or not...cheers

After getting Hail Caesar from Warlord Games before Christmas last year, I have read the rules and took some of what was said to heart. One, that being unit sizes. In the rule book, Rick Priestly suggested the following:

Player feel free to set unit sizes with fewer or more models as they please, these just happen to be the sizes we use and which suit our collection. With that I mind, I set my unit sizes for those of us mere mortals that have mere mortal collections…lol

So here are the tables I created with the modifications as would best suit my collection and those around this area that have armies as well.

2nd unit is Warlord Games Sarmatan Cataphract

I just finish these up this morning, actually they have been painted for a few days but I have been putting the basing off, anyone that follows my blog knows how much I DON'T love flocking and painting bases...lol I really do have to say after painting this 2nd set of the Warlord Games Samaritan Cataphract that these are some of the best miniatures I have ever had the privilege to paint in close to 30 yrs of on and off painting! Worth every cent period! I painted these up so as to be able to use them as Romans by painting Reds and Tan/White colors common to Roman units I have seen elsewhere, yes I know they aren't Romans but I don't have but 1 Cavalry unit for my EIR Romans and they are light to medium types, so these will act as Roman Cataphractii or Clibinarii(sp) until such time as I can get them.

If you don't have any of these guys and are looking at get some have no fear they are fantastic sets of miniatures! Also I wanted to note two things as follows below.

1st: I have run out of grass tufts so I tried the best I could to simulate them using flock.

2nd the 100mm Spears that come with these sets are lethally sharp, I would suggest sands them or grinding the tips down in some way as I did. I used a dremel mototool with a sanding wheel to take the sharp bits off the tip. With these guys it is very easy to skewer yourself 1/4 of an inch deep or more when reaching for one model by another point nearby. You have been warned...:)

My Ancients Command stands...

So far I have finished all of the command stands minus the Celts. So here are the Roman, Dacian and Dacian King Decabalus command stands. They are very simple with just gravel and and grass tufts as that is all I have at hand. I hope you like them. I tried to adjust the exposure up 0.7 for each to get more light onto them. Let me know what you think... Also all figures are Warlord Games figures.

Okay so I finished these a couple of days ago with the exception of the command stands which I am still working on. Also not pictured are my Celtic slingers and archers, again still working on them, namely basing. So anyway without any more preamble here they are... Now on to my Dacians. after these guys I will being doing my SAGA forces and after that I dont know. Either Greek/Spartans, Seleucids or Carthaginians to go with my EIR or Republican Romans respectively, what do you think? I am leaning towards Spartans and Greeks...

28mm Warlord Games Roman Eagle bearer, Roman Mounted General and unit #2 Celtic Cavalry

Well I just finished these up sand grass tufts which I am out of at the moment. These were all very nice models and cleaned up very well. So far the only boxed set I had trouble with from these guys was the Roman Cavalry that I posted some time ago. I would say however that I am beginning to notice a lack of muscle detail on the horses and am beginning to wonder if the were designed on AutoCAD as they just don't have the detail Foundry or Perry horses seem to. So anyway here they are and my first post of 2012... Again sorry for the crappy pics, I am NOT a good photog...

28mm Warlod Games Celtic Fanatics and Balearic Slingers

I just finished these guys up from my collection of unpainted stuff. They are Warlord Games Naked Celtic Fanatics and for my Roman Army Balearic Slingers. Both were in units of 8 when I got them so I suppose I need more. I really enjoyed painting the Slingers and I just well painted the fanatics...lol. Not much on painting naked chaps. I would say that the scupts were done well but could use more variety. So up first the Balearic Slingers.

Next will be the Celtic Fanatics... I have more pictures of them as they tend to be individual in their painting. I had intended on painting hi-lights on the skin but then realized that I had the blue tattoo's on them and that wasn't going to work after I had used Army Painter dip process on them. Anyway here they are...

28mm Gripping Beast Anglo-Danish and Viking test pieces

Okay I have been working on these since Christmas and wanted to get the opinion on these 2 test pieces. They are all from the Gripping Beast Plastic Boxed sets. I mounted them on GW 25mm Rounds to be used with either SAGA or Skjaldborg Rules sets. I have not done the basing on them yet in case someone pointed out something that needed to be adjusted. These figures in this post are from both command frames in each boxed set. Anyway first up with be 8 pictures of the Viking Leader/Jorl and the banner bearer. Also these are the flags that came with the boxed sets, I am NOT happy with them at all but I do not have any replacements at hand so those will be changed later.

Next are the Anglo-Danish or Saxons, however you want to use them I guess. First up will be the Leader/Eorl and then the banner bearer. Please let me know what you think and any adjustments that should be made. Also I Hand Painted these Shields so if they like really aren't that great well you know why...I wanted to try my hand at Hand Painting these Shields as well as for my Normans when I post them. But that will depend on how these shields are received. So here are the next 8 pictures.

Okay well that's it for this post, again please let me know constructively what you think... These also are for the table top not a contest or anything... :)

28mm Warlord Games Celtic Cavarly unit #1

Well I just finished these guys up last night, Again they were very good as far as castings go, definitely NOT like the Roman Cavalry I got as my first set from them... That almost got me scared thinking the rest of the army would be crap as well. Anyway back to these guys. The horse were very nicely done, note they are not Foundry, Aventine or First Rank nice but they are still okay. The lower torso of the riders are cast to the horses and unlike the metal tops of the Roman Cav the Celtic Cavalry riders have plastic upper torso's. I mounted these guys on 20x50mm Flat plastic bases that came with Perry Plastic Cav sets. then mounted that centered on top of a GW Slotted Cavalry base. I mounted these individually like they are for WAB or COE. Hail Caesar does not require this but I still do not know which system I prefer more CoE or HC(Hail Caesar). I also mounted ALL of my infantry singly as above. CoE like WAB removes casualties whereas HC does not remove them. Anyway enough of the gory details...here are some pictures...enjoy.

28mm Warlord Games Roman Army Done!!! For now...lol

I just finished the Warlord Games "boxed" army of Imperial Romans. They are listed as follows:

4 Cohorts of Legionnaires
1 Cohort of Praetorians
1 Cohort of Veterans
1 Cohort of Auxiliary foot
1 unit of 12 Light Cavalry
4 Scorpions
and assorted leader types.

These guys were a hell of a lot to paint, the not so fun part was basing the entire army at once! I officially HATE BASING FIGURES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyway I have these guys painted for like about a week now but the basing was killing me. I finally forced myself to get the done to post. I do not know how many points this is for Hail Caesar as I don't have the army list book but for Clash of Empires I have the list posted in either the main rule book or the web, either way these guys kitted out to the max come out to about 4220pts.

I am now waiting for the last bits from a trade I did some time ago to arrive. Supposedly tomorrow arrives my Vikings, Saxons and Norman Knights. As SAGA rules and associated dice are unobtainium, I will be using Skjaldborg Rules as they are what I could find on the web. And hopefully my Celts/Gauls/Dacians will arrive at some point. Then I will be ready to go with either Hail Caesar or COE, but until I get the army lists book for Hail Caesar I will be using COE point values obviously...

Well I just got these done, and I have to say they were so great looking out of the box I didn't want to paint them, they were that nice!!! Bravo Warlord Games, oh and thanks for the replacement parts. Anyway these were an absolute joy to paint and would love to get another box or to for my Dacians. Anyway if you are looking for some shock cavalry for your Dacian army or your Romans for that matter, these are the guys for you and you will be very happy with them if yours are half as nice as mine were out of the box. Makes me wonder what happened with the Roman Auxiliary Cavalry I got sometime back when I look at these, it was like night and day! Anyway if you have been riding the fence about these guys go get them you wont be sorry. Here are a few pictures of mine finished.

Okay so I have been painting like a mad man lately. So far I have 6 cohorts of 20 Legionnaires, 1 Auxiliary Foot and 1 Auxiliary Cavalry Painted, also 4 Scorpions(yes the finally arrived), several Optio's and command figures. For this post I am going to show you the painted, based and ready for the table top. I still have all the foot troops to base which will be a big task, so I have been putting that off. For the bases on this army I chose to make it like a semi arid region with little to no greenery. OK so here goes, these are ALL Warlord Games figures, I hope you enjoy. as I get the others based I will post them as well as well as some army composite photographs. Also I have a special treeat in a few days, I review of the Warlord Games Sarmatian Cataphracts. I won't give anything away yet ;)

Question: What rules should I get for 28mm Samurai gaming

Ok so I got a crap ton of Old Glory Samurai in a trade about 3weeks ago and was wondering what rules I should use? I do not think that either Hail Caesar nor Clash of Empires will work. I know of WAB 2.0 but it is very hard to find around here. Are they any others that people have played that they like? I have never been fond of the small army type games like Impitus or DBA, DBM so those are out for me. SO I am looking for advise...

Warlord Games 28mm Romans coming along nicely.

I got these guys about 2 weeks ago and have been painting as I can, I have not been painting as much as I usually do as I have been working at a new job and have some other life type things getting in the way. Anyway I found these guys nice to paint, I am absolutely in love with the "Army Painter" Dip specifically the Medium one called "Strong Tone". I have used Dark Tone in the past and was debating about using it on these guys but when I opened my dark tone it was more Solid dark tone, so in the bin it went. So far I have 1 Legionarie unit done and 2 other almost done as well as 1 unit of auxiliary cavalry and 1 unit of Auxiliary infantry. My dip process is as follows:

My "Army Painter" finishing process.

1st. I first brush on the Army Painter dip after shaking the tub. I brush on until I get the effect I like so it is rather lightly.
2nd after it drys about 6hrs here, very dry climate....lucky me.
3rd I use the Army Painter "Anti Shine" and mist that on, it does not take alot just enough to remove the glossy appearance. I can not say how much I really love the Anti-shine. It works miracles and is very fast drying.
4. Once that all drys I start highlighting the miniatures areas I want to bring out more detail with light colors of the base colors I feel like doing, on these guys I did not do much of this as I wanted them to look a bit trail tired so to speak and sun tanned. I did it mainly on the Tunics.
5. After that I put on the Shield transfers IMHO the next best thing to a big steak dinner I love shield transfers.
6. I then put some GW 'ard coat on the shield transfers almost as soon as I am done putting them on the entire unit, also getting some under the corners that have turned up slightly. After covering the hole shield front with 'ard coat, I let that dry, again it does not take long, but that will vary with your climate. and lastly I do a very, very light misting of "Army Painter Anti-Shine" on the shield faces I just got done doing and thats it.

So anyway that's it. So here are the first 3 units done. I still need to do the basing, but I am waiting for bases, although I may just go ahead and do these guys before they get here. Also I still have not recieved the missing stuff from the army I got of which these are a part of from Warlord Games, they supposedly sent them out late last month and told me the other day if I dont see them by xmas to call them or email. I am not going to say anything on that.... I think you can figure that one out on your own. I hope you like the mini's....cheers

Mini Review: Wargames Factory Celtic Chariots

I was just at my local FLGS yesterday and saw that they had a box of these guys, so I took the chance and picked up the box they had. Well I am happy to report that I was very, very pleasantly surprised, to say the least! Upon opning the box I was greeted with crisply done sprues of Chariots and figures. The figure size is comparable with Warlord Games mini's as well as Black Tree Designs. The chariots and figures are all multi-part and go together very well. The casting of the mini's was done with a minimum of flash and very slight mold lines. The best part of all of this was the price, $19.99 USD!!!! Warlords Games Celtic Chariots go for over twice that, now granted they are metal which I prefer but still 3 chariots and crews for $19.99!!!! That is awesome! I can not recommend this box set high enough. So if you are looking for some Chariots for your wild Celts, have a look at these guys, I think you will be as surprised as I was for $19.99. This company also appears to be releaseing in the very near future a bunch of different boxes of 16th Century Samurai, I hope they are as well done as these guys were as I am doing a Samarai army or 2 in 2012, I will be looking at those guys to fill out the metal ranks.

Well I have been gaining a lot of new stuff over the last couple of months through trades and with the existing stuff I have I have decided what projects I will be doing for next year. I am going to list these in not any particular order, just as they come to mind...

I don't know what to say, Warlord Games???

Ok so I just received my order from Warlord games of the Hail Caesar Legions of Rome Big box set. SO after waiting 2 wks for it to arrive to say I was excited was an understatement! Well I opened the box and the excitement kinda disappeared.

The parts I was missing are as follows:

1. 4 x Scorpion and crew - eg there were NONE in the box, but were supposed to be 4
2. 1 x Aquifier was missing
3. Heres the best part there was not a sprue of bases in the entirety of the army, thats 8 boxes of guys and NOT one sprue of bases
4. Next missing was the shield transfers for the Auxiliary Cavalry.

On a positive note the plastic was nicely done on the rest of the army. On a not so positive note, the first box I opened to clean up and put together, the Auxiliary Cavalry you have to see the pictures below to see crap and this is what I got on every horse in addition 2 of the horses were not entirely formed with the only thing holding some of the hoof's on were the mold connectors between the base of the model and the leg.

There was flash everywhere, connector pieces, slag on the bottom of the miniatures, in the last 30+ years of painting miniatures these were the worst I had worked on yet, and having already built one warlord games army, my ECW armies I was stunned. I have sent Warlord Games several emails as I discovered stuff missing as I went and things like the missing base sprues did not register with me right away as well as the missing shield transfers. I just hope they make good on all of this stuff and that this certainly does not happen to anyone else... Several years ago when I had an issue with a $240.00 Battlefront FOW boxed army, the headquarters in New Zealand sent me an ENTIRE new $240.00 boxed army!!! Now that is customer service! I am not expecting anything here as I didn't when dealing with Battlefront. But that single act by Battlefront kept me as a customer. Warlord Games??? We will see it is in their court now so to speak...

18mm AB 1st and 3rd KGL Hussars, Done.

I just rushed through these two units of KGL Hussar this morning and part of last night for our first game of Lasalle with my buddy this afternoon. The figures we will be using will be from my collection as his Russians are not table ready yet. He will be playing the British and I will be playing the French. These guys were great to paint, although I could have done better had I not had to rush. Again these are on temp bases as I am waiting for my Litko order to get made. Anyway I could not find definitive info on coloring for the KGL units so I took as stab at them from pictures I could find on the web, some of which were conflicting from one site to the next so I had to make judgement calls on facing etc. The first unit will be the 1st KGL Hussars and the second will be the 3rd KGL Hussars... I also would like to apologize for me crappy picture taking, I never claimed to be good at that... :) 1st KGL

I have been looking for some nice 15mm-18mm British Heavy Dragoons of the quality of AB or Eureka for example? The ones I am looking for have the helmets similar to there French counterparts and NOT the Bicorne. I am at a loss, I do not want Essex or OG unless its the last resort. I know of the OG ones but I am not sure of the quality. Who am I missing? I got a unit of 18 beautiful 28mm Perry.s the other day in trade, but they are a "little" big...lol SO if you know of any other maker of these please let me know. I have searched around on the net and found only bicorne types other than Essex.

AB 18mm British 7th Hussars and Royal horse artillery limbers plus guns

These are not my best paint jobs as I am rushing them for a Lasalle game this weekend. First is the British 7th Hussars, these mini's were brilliant with beautiful detail. I did have a ton of trouble painting the front of the tunics however. Next are several Royal horse battery limber x1, as well as Regular foot limbers x2. I have 3 battery's but one 9lbr is not there as the wheels were missing when I got them. So I will spare you the close ups I am not happy with them but they will pass for now.
Also please note that I have these mounted on temp bases as the Litko order I placed will be a long time coming. I think in the future I will cut my own bases. to wait 6 weeks for them to arrive is a bit much. Especially when you thought they might get here in 10-14 days. After these guys I still have 2 KGL Cavalry units of 12 each and a 32 man Cacadore unit plus skirmishers to paint before Saturday God willing. Anyway here they are... Ok 2nd update, I have done some detail work and cleaned up the painting over all as well as Painting the horses. I still need to paint the details on the horses etc. and the riders still need more work. I am haivng issues with my painting in general. I have a base coat and a highlight on the major area's eg the red and green area's although you would be hard pressed to see it. I am thinking of rebase coating those area's like paints and shirt/jacket and then trying highlighting them again. If this doesn't work "hi ho a merry go a dipping I will go."... I just cant figure out why I cant get this right! grrr!!! very frustrating!

Okay so I have had these guys for sometime in the collection along with 3 more boxes. Anyway I decided to do a little 28mm stuff and decided on these guys. They are being painted up as the 7th Hussars around 1812ish. I really like the miniatures, they have very good detail for plastic and go together well, although I would prefer to not have the additional time of building them as well as painting them, time is precious. This is the first group of 3 of which the total units size is 12. They will be based up for Lasalle, I will also be able to use them for GdB. let me know what you think so far...

Misc. Stuff that needed to be finshed and based

Well I had several units that needed to be finished and based. Definitely nothing spectacular but I figured I would post them none the less.

First up are some not so fun to paint Essex British Light Dragoons, Short review in a word "lacking". They were pretty plain to say the least, I am trying to get my point across about these miniatures without talking them down. Anyway I decided to do a little xtra basing on them to liven them up a bit. They are painted as the British 9th Light Dragoons. I do have a question, does British Cavalry not fly a Nationa flags or something? Every picture I could find of British Cav the were not flying the Union Jack. Anyway so here they are... Not much mind you... And add in my "great" camera work and we have Craptastic stuff here...

Next up will be some Minifig/Essex mixed 95th Rifles set up as SK3 skirmish bases for Lasalle and the as an Irregular unit. Same as above...

Next I did a bunch of skirmish bases for my British units in Lasalle. There are 7 units worth of SK2 skirmishers. These were Essex and the above statement applies. I guess I am spoiled by AB or even Old Glory. So here are some pics of them, again nothing to write home about trying to get them done and based for games.

Lastly some Command bases for my French army, they are a mixtures of AB and Old Glory. I am thinking they could use some more work and at some point I will. Just wanted to get them table ready and worry about contest type work later...

Okay so that's it for now, I am going to do some 28mm work next, some Perry Hussar's. Side note I just saw that the Perry's are just about to release some British Hussars, these I can not wait for!!! Oh well that's it for now...

AB 15mm 4th French Legere

Well as promised I just finished these guys up along with a Scruby commission I was doing. Anyway I decided to designate them as the 4th Legere which fought at Ligny and Waterloo as well as other battles. They were typical AB and I loved painting them. I should order another 3-4 units at some point. I am not sure if the paint scheme I did on them is historically accurate for this unit so if you have any coloring info on that unit, I would love to see it. I still need to flag the unit but don't have any printed now that I can find, so I will do that later.

Waterloo Casualty

I found this Picture of this original French Carabinier on the web and thought I would share it with you. He was apparently hit by a cannon ball during the French Heavy Cavalry Charges during Waterloo. This is amazing, it actually punch through the front and back. When I saw this I just had to share it with you guys... If you notice there is a little plate near the neck area with "Waterloo 18 June 1815". I just have to say that had to hurt, or did he feel like a bug just before it hits your wind shield?

     Hi all I just wanted to thank all that have visited my humble blog and find it of some use. Turns out is was 29,000 hits not 22,000. I was using a hit counter that was not from blogger so it missed like the 6-7,000 hits. I noticed my Map app that shows bloggers where the hits are coming from does not have nearly enough hits as I added it way later. So anyway that's that...

Side note:

     One of my gaming group buddies approached me about Napoleonics and I believe has been bitten. He is going to be making a AB 15-18mm Nappie army, he has already started buying AB's from Eureka and will be painting very quickly I would reckon to bet. He is a very, very talented painter so if he does not have a blog I may be posting his stuff here.
     Anyway after seeing the Lasalle rules set he is going to get Lasalle, I will try later to get him into GdB or RtE providing I can find a copy of the later. Also we will be doing Lasalle BatReps over the next year after showing him some of the blogs I follow that have posted their own wonderful Lasalle BatReps, notably Galpy from 15mm Paintshack, Trail ape and his site also Paul Alba and his site Napoleonics in Miniature, although his BatReps are for GdB mostly, they are wonderful. I also have GdB so that is a possibility over the next year as well. SO after seeing my collection, the BatReps etc he is bitten! Anyway thanks again for the visits, the inspiration from your sites etc and great people I have met cheers...

15mm AB French Dragoons the 25th

Well this is my first post back since my rather long break, These guys are like 99% finished with only some touch ups needed, but I figured I would post them as I said I would like last week. ;) I did these as I am finishing a commission for a friend of mine in SoCal, he has a real thing for "Old School" Jack Scrubby ACW 30mm Figures. When I say "Old School" I mean it! These Scrubby's I am just finishing, I think the molds were originally done in the late 50's or early 60's. Anyway back to the topic at hand, I wanted to finish up these AB French Dragoons I had as it was the last French Cav unit I had left to paint from my last order to them. I figured I would paint them as the 25th as I did not have any Orange in any of my other French Dragoon units. This brings my total French Dragoon units to 4, so now I can use them with Lasalle for a Dragoon Brigade. So without any further ado...

Sorry if the pictures are crap, I am just not a good macro photog...:) After I finish up the Scrubby commission I will post up some AB French Legere that I got with the same order as the dragoons...

What kind of plane is this and what is so special about it?

Hey all, I have been trying to get pictures of this plane for months and finally got them today. Here's the weird part, it is a Radial Engined plane from probably the 50's, it has an extended radome on the front and a pod underneath the right wing root. It is painted U.S. Navy Haze grey both top and bottom. My questions are why refit a Koren war era plane with the kit it has on it? What could it's purpose be? What kind of plane is it? I flew in an armed services for my countries military and would like to think I have some knowledge of plane recognition and purpose but this one baffles me, it is NOT a DC-3, DC-6 etc...so pipe up you aviation experts and have a go. And the last question is why in the hell would you fly this plane daily over the area in which I live? It almost looks like a Vickers Valetta but the Valetta is too stubby looking to be that plane.

Also here is a P2 someone mentioned for comparison the P2 has a midline wing root whereas the plane above has a low mounted wing. Also the tail is not that of a P2, it is completely different. While they did modify the nose to house the radar or surveillance package it is rather unheard of to modify a structural component such as the tail assembly. To replace the radome is no big deal as it is just fiberglass.

After further digging I found That the plane in question is a Convair Cv-600 It is a photo recon bird and its owner is restricted, it's purpose is LiDAR imaging among other things.

Okay so after figuring all this out, here is a bit of trivia, the first "Vomit Comet" NASA used to train the astronauts was the same type of aircraft as this one. A Convair CV-600... Pretty cool.

First up, I finished the 12 Perry Dragoons, well at least the 1st 12 this morning and also 32 Victrix French Old Guard. These were mounted up for GdB so I am hoping by the end of the year to have forces for both Brits and French available to play with, but that is a tall order as these guys take a ton more time to do than the 15mm guys do. So here is what is done...

So I have the next 2 units to show you again all Perry, the first is the first 12 of the 1st Cuirassier regt. They are a work in progress, one thing I am debating on with them and the following unit is whether to clean them up so to speak after doing the "Saxon Dog dip process" specifically the white area's, should I leave them "dirty" eg on campaign or make everything nice and white? That also goes for the next unit of Perry Heavy cav. the 2nd Regiment of Carabinier. The Carabinier are still on painting stands so that I can get to everything, currently in these pics the have just been "Saxon Dog dipped", next they will get the hi lights needed, but again I am not sure on the white areas, should I leave them dirty or hi light them to clean them up? Also how do you paint black horses and also black horse harnesses and tack? I am at a loss for this one... I tried painting the tack brown on black horses as I did with the Cuirassier but I am not "thrilled" with that solution... So how do you make black harnesses stand out on black horses...

WIP 28mm Perry Dragoons

Well I finally went back to my 28mm stuff and started painting them again. Here is the first unit that I have painted, well partial unit as they are based for GdB so I need 24 or there about for a unit, so here is the first 12. I am painting them up as the 7th Dragoons as the flag was included in the box. I am trying to model my army for 1811-1813 or there about's. I know they changed standards for uniforms all the time for different unit types, so I will try to make them correct for what I can get around here. I still need to flock the bases and do some more touch ups, so anyway I thought I would post them for critique. Please respond with any changes that I should do as my research materials are slight to say the least. Cheers and thanks in advance...

2 New Warlord Games ECW Parliamentary Infantry units done

Well I finally got this bunch finished when doing 2 more Warlord Games ECW Infantry units. I painted them at the same time, usually I think the quality suffers a bit when doing that due to numbers, but it looks like I may have gotten away with it. They were painted with the base coating, dipping and high lighting method I have discussed before. The first unit is an unknown Parliamentary Yellowcoat unit which I used the Warlord Games metal command pack and the second is maybe Tiller's Greencoats which I used the stock plastic command group. Please forgive me if they are not accurate for said unit/units as I only have 1 ECW book that being Osprey Men-at-Arms #14 and the odd magazine and what limited stuff I can find on the web. So if you know of units that these could pass for on the Parliamentary side please speak up... So now I have 1 more Infantry unit to build and paint for the Roundheads and then on to Cavalry, Dragoons and Firelocks as well as some artillery for both sides and I am done, for now ....we all know how that goes...;) The next week or so I am doing some more Jack Scruby 30mm ACW Commission work so that is what is on the table next...enjoy

Newcastle Whitecoats Done!

Okay so I just got these guys clear coated and based after painting them. They are Warlord Games Royalist(actually Covenanters) Infantry, I needed the caps they came with to make the Whitecoats. Anyway even though they do not have the detail of metal mini's there are good for rank and file troops, then add the metal Warlord Games command packs and you get a descent unit. So here thay are...I hope they measure up...

I have just finished this command stand of figure yesterday. They are the Metal Warlord Games ECW command packs. I decided to substitute these guys as I had 3 packs of them and they were not getting used. Turns out I like them a lot more than the normal command figures that come with Warlord Games ECW Infantry boxes. I have the regiment done as well with the exception of the bases getting flocked and detailed. I will put these guys on a 4 space 40mm x 40mm base this morning and then flock them with the rest of the unit. So here they are what do you think? Note that the flags on these command stands are cast so you have to paint them up yourself. Also these were dipped with Army Painter Dark Tone and then high lighted.

Finished Commission of 30mm Jack Scruby(Old School) ACW pieces

Okay so an acquaintance of mine from HMGS-PSW asked me to paint up these guys as a test run for him. These are wonderful Jack Scruby "Old School" 30mm ACW figures, I really had fun painting these as they were to look old school and not the current trend of hyper detailing like we do now. So I a still have to Clear Gloss Coat these guys and then ship them back to him. Thanks for the work, I hope to do more for you soon.

15mm AB Napoleon and Command staff, Painting done.

I just finished this piece, it is Napoleon, his command staff and escorts. This was not terribly difficult to do just tedious. I still need to do the basing and am not sure how I want to proceed with that, so I will think on it for a bit and I am open to suggestions. Well here are some pics, I think it turned out pretty good, but how it turned out is up to you, what do you think? As I stated before I have openings for commissions right now so if you need something painted speak up... Rates are reasonable... :-) Cheers...

AB 15mm Napoleon and retinue stand Part 1

I got these guys a couple of weeks ago and started painting them up and basing etc. I made the base out of 1/8" plastic card and magnetic tape and I made it kind of a football(American) shape. So far I have Napoleon done and Roustam his personal Mameluke. On Roustam the tail broke off on his horse taking it out of the bag and disappeared, don't ask me I don't know I have never had issues with AB before, anyway the only spare tail I could get was off of an Essex horse so it is an AB horse body with an Essex tail... I see by these pics I need to touch up Roustam a bit in the face and on the a fore mentioned tail. So there they are so far what do you think?

Ok I got to thinking that one of my week points on this blog about miniatures was pictures. So I made a light box or photography box or whatever you want to call it, it is made out of a Games Workshop Battalion box set and cut down on two sides. I then glued in white copy paper so that it had a good white background. So here it is... and it took all of a minute or so to make.

and that's it and all there is to it, now hopefully it will make taking pictures of my miniatures turn out better.

15mm AB French 5th Lancers

I just finished these guys up with the exception of flocking. This bunch turned out much better than the 6th Lancers that I did some time ago. I do not know why but these were really fun to paint, more so that than when painting the 6th. I tried to take a little extra time with these to get them right and I think they turned out good. I also made a special box for taking photographs that I will do a blog entry on later. Okay so now I have the 5th and the 6th Lancers so my French lancer contingent for Quatra Bras is covered. I still need to buy and paint up 2 more units of these guys for Lasalle as an Organic Brigade. So anyways please let me know what you think, what I did right, what I should change and or drop from the figs. When I order these Lasalle units packs from http://www.eurekaminusa.com/ I keep forgetting that they do not include a Guidon or Eagle, I must remember this in the future. 15mm AB French Horse Battery painting and rebasing...

Okay so I painted the cannons and crews some time ago but I just painted up the horse and limbers. I also rebased the cannon themselves as I had discovered that I had mounted the base with the long way deep and instead of the long way of the base being across the front of the guns themselves. I hope that makes sense. Anyways I am also trying to do so more interesting basing on my 15's, I usually just flock the whole base and am done with it with the exception of my 28mm stuff which I try to do a more elaborate base. After seeing a lot of great painted and based mini's on the web I decided that I will rebase all of my 15mm stuff to better depict "real ground". So here they are please let me know what you think.

Anyway here is the collection to date. This all of my painted 15mm Napleonics. They are a combination of AB, Old Glory, Essex, Battle Honors and a we bit of Minifigs.

Above is my British Infantry command stands and skirmish stands to date. 1x40 Guard unit, 1x20 95th rifles (Irregular mounting) and 6x3 man skirmish bases, 5x32 Line infantry units, 1x32 Highlander unit(w/ Approp. skirmisher stands) and 1x32 Nassau infantry unit.

Above is my British Cavalry and artillery, as you can see I need a bit more here. I will get more of what I need here when I do my next AB order. 1xbattery of Congrieve(sp) rockets,1xRHA battery, 1x RA Battery, 2x12 Hussars, 1x12 Light Dragoons and 1x18 Heavy Dragoons.

Here are my 1806(Jena) Prussians. I still need to flock the bases on these and I still have a TON more to paint of these as well. So far 4 various infantry units, 2 batteries of AB artillery still to finish w/Limbers, 1x18 AB Kuirassier unit. and some AB command stands

This is my French Artillery I have both Foot and Horse Batteries here and they are all AB except for a few cannon above... 3 foot batteries and 2 horse batteries. As stated below these are getting rebased.

Here is my French Cavalry here are 3x12 Dragoon units, 2x18 large Cuirassier units, 2x12 Guard Lancers, 1x12 Lancer, 1x12 Chausser and 2x12 Hussars. Also command stands at the lower right.

Here is my French infantry and skirmishers so far, they include 2x32 Guard units, 1x Legere unit, 1x32 Suisse line unit, 7x32 Line units. So that is the collection, I have been painting this since around April last year when I started collecting and painting them.

I am in the process of rebasing my Artillery as I had the bases lengthwise for depth and discovered that they should be based width wise also on the table right now and in the process of painting are an AB French lancer unit, 1 AB French Legere unit, Some AB Napoleon and retinue. and another unit of Dragoons again AB. Oh well it is not much but it is mine and ready to table for the most part. Enjoy... Cheers.

15mm AB French Horse Limber and Artillery Piece.

I just got done painting this 15mm AB French Horse artillery limber and gun up, hopefully this is finished other than the minor things. I wanted to give it a nicer base than I did but I don't have the materials at the moment so it got the normal static grass treatment. Anyway as usual the AB's are splendid to paint, I hope to ultimately have the majority of my armies in 15mm Napoleonics filled with the AB's. You just can't go wrong with them. I particularly like the Lasalle unit packs that they sell. Yes I have Lasalle but I also have AOE and GdB of which there should be no rebasing from one to the next. At some point I hope to get Republic to Empire and hopefully the basing will be good for it as well.

Units that I have been working on of late

Well I have been working on several units both French and British 15mm miniatures to kinda get my armies in order to play quickly. These were just painted up right now to a lower table top standard, I just wanted to get them on the table, I will touch them up later as time permits. So I am sorry nothing fancy right now, I just haven't posted anything for a bit. First up I did 6 AB Cuirassier to go with the first 12 I had already painted some time a go to make a Large Lasalle unit for Cav. of 18 figures . These are AB...

Next up is a unit if French Ligne Infantry, these are Old Glory

Next up is the British 15th Hussars, at least I hope they are, I have had a terrible time finding any resource material on British Light Dragoons and Hussars so I have kinda made due with what I could fins, I hope they are correct. These are also AB figures

Next up are some 15mm British line infantry(unit undetermined at this time) They were okay figure wise just a little on the smallish/squat size but other than that they were good. These are Essex.

Next I have some 15mm French Ligne Lancers these are the 6th Regiment, reference material on these was a lot better and I really liked painting these, I have 1 more unit of 12 to of these AB Ligne Lancers to paint, I will get to them soon. These are AB.

Last is a few stands to build out a Large British Lasalle infantry unit, these are guard. The figures are Essex and were typical for the type.

I am still working on British 95th Rifleman they are a mix of Battle Honors, Mini-fig's and Essex both a irregular unit and skirmish stands, as well as some regular infantry skirmish stands for my Brits. I do have to say getting the proper green on the 95th riflemen along with the dull appearance of these it makes it hard to get them right. After I finish all that up next will be:

AB French Napoleon Lasalle pack w/8 figures.
AB 15mm French Legere unit - Lasalle unit pack
AB 15mm French Ligne Lancers - Lasalle unit pack
AB 15mm French Dragoons - Lasalle unit pack

I have been working on the French 4th Line Lancers along with British and French command stands. These are AB miniatures for the French the Marshall's and Generals and the ADC sets. The British command I think is Old Glory, I have had them for a awhile and can not remember. The round one is "Old Nosie" and the Line Lancers are AB. After I get done with these I am going to finished up my ECW Newcastle White Coats... so with me lick on those, I will be dipping them...

15mm Old Glory French Line Infantry and AB mini's order

Ok so I just finished painting this unit for my French Nappies and thought I had better post pics as I have not posted anything in a while. Also My FLGS owner just ordered me a ton of AB Nappies about $400.00 worth, part should be here Monday and part later in the week. I got a bunch of French cav(Lancers, Dragoons) and some legere units as well as line infantry and then got several Brit line infantry units, 2 units of Cacadores, 3 units of light dragoons some RHA battery's among other stuff. These units are the Lasalle units packs. So I will be painting a bunch of AB units for a while instead of my usual Old Glory. Anyway here is the Line unit I painted up and finshed sans flocking today.

New ECW Royalist Kings Life Guard foot and some Royalist Cuirrasier

Well I just got these guys just about done. The Foot are Warlord Games and from the King's Lifeguard and the Horse are Old Glory miniatures and of Rupert's Lifeguard. The flag for the foot regiment I hand painted but the Cavalry flag i8s something I got off the internet and re-sized. This is my first attempt at painting a flag, I do have to say that they are very difficult for the non professional artist. I still have to finish the command for the horse regiment but they are almost there. I was just so excited to post these guys I couldn't wait. Also I still have to put silfor grass "plugs" on the bases. Anyway please let me know what you think, don't be shy I am looking for some feedback.

Royalist King's Life Guard In the process of painting them now

I have started these last night after working on the gun in the prior blog entry. These are Warlord Games Royalist Infantry. There are 40 of them including command. I am using Foundry paint's as usual for these and a little Vallejo paints where I am lacking in my Foundry stuff. I did base coating on them and and just did the dip well sort of, I use what army painter calls the "splash method" whereas you paint on the army painter dip, allowing you to control the dip coating also it uses much less dip when compared to actually dipping them. I am waiting for the AP dip to dry and then I will move onto high lighting and detailing. Also check out the Royalist Demi-Cannon I just posted to the blog before this post... below Cheers...

Old Glory 28mm ECW Demi-Cannon

Just finished this gun and crew as well as finished the basing and anti-shine last night. I used the Army-Painter Dark Tone then high-lighted everything after that and did any detail work that was needed before moving on to the base. I have painted this for my Royalist army but it could be used for Parliamentarian's as well, given the nature of the ECW. I wanted to thank Saxon Dog yet again for his blog and the help I got from it. Anyway here is the gun and crew...enjoy. :)

Question about time spent painting 28mm units

I was wondering what the total time painting you would spend for an average 32-40 man unit of infantry or 12-16 man unit of cavalry in 28mm of ECW, Napoleonics, ACW, Crusaders etc? Now I have a large collection of ACW that I painted and I would say that generally they are less time consuming in painting from priming to sealing than the ECW or Napoleonics, but I thought I would add it just to get idea's on painting times. Also is there anything you try to do to cuts corners on painting time that do not effect the quality of your work?

I just finished this guy up, he is the Warlord Games Earl of Essex. It seems that when working on one figure at a time I do better, at least it would appear that way to me. I am afraid painting an army that way would take a bloody long time! I have to find a balance a suppose. It was painted mainly with Foundry Paints except for Vallejo for the base. I tried taking this out doors to photograph but the sun was at a point that it was shadowing a bit, so I had to position the figure so as to minimize the effect. Let me know what you think please...

Prince Rupert's Blewcoats pikemen

I have been working on these for a few days, and while they do not compare to Saxon Dog's or Galpy's stuff yet, I am trying...:) They are Warlord Games Royalist pikemen and command figures for Rupert's Blewcoats 4th Captain's colors. I still have the 24 Musket armed chaps to finish up. Also I still need to finish the drum on the drummer, I just noticed...They have been fun to paint but detail is a bit lacking when compared to Old Glory or especially Perry's or Foundry... Oh well I get what I can. Without further a due...

1813-1815 AB Prussians Update #2

Well these guys painted up well. I have finished them well mostly there are a little bit of touch ups to do.I have mounted them on metal magnetic bases that I make from strip magnets and Wargame Accessories metal base stands. Again these are mounted up for playing Lasalle or even Age of Eagles. Both of which I have. Next I will be working on 2 Minifigs Prussian Kurrasier units of 12 again they do not have command so those will need to be purchased and painted up. I will start painting them today.

1813-1815 Prussian Commison Update #1

Okay so here goes, I got these guys in a trade with a mate of mine last year, but they were Late war Prussians and I was/am doing Jena Prussians so they just wouldn't work for my army. Anyway I have given them to FLGS store owner for his later period Prussians. I do not have command for them, so he will need to get some. They are AB miniatures and as usual are fabulous to paint. They are being painted up as the 2nd West Prussian's. They are not done yet but I thought that I would put an update up for my friend to see the progress. This unit and plus the one I had posted last year and several others still to go will make up the start of his army. They will be based so as to be compatible with Lasalle. Anyway here they are... Enjoy Gary...they are coming along slowly, I am finding the muscle memory for painting is starting to come back to me now after 7-8 months of not painting.

Army Painter dipping experiment

Okay so I have been looking over one of my favorite blogs Saxon Dog and he dips most if not all of his ECW figures. I have army painter Quick Shade which I believe he uses. I have both Soft Tone and Dark Tone but no Strong Tone(which he uses). Anyway so I dipped one of the Warlord Dragoons with the Dark Tone I have an here it is, I have not flat coated it yet nor done any touch ups paint wise. I actually like it, now as long as testors dull coat does not attack the dip when coated I may be golden for these guys! I think I do like it anyway what do you think?

The camera I got as a replacement is a Nikon L22 Coolpix 12mp. Not that I will be using 12mp on the blog but it is a pretty nice inexpensive camera that should work well for taking pics of minis...

It's been awhile... but I thought I would talk of brush cleaners

As most if not all of you have noticed over time brushes tend to split and or tip curl after "water cleaning". Well after getting exceptionally tired of buying new brushes every other week due to tip curling issues I finally got some brush cleaners and conditioners from a local art supply store. The ones that were available at the store were of several different types and manufacturers, the few that I chose were B&J "The Masters" brush cleaner and preserver and another one called "Pink Soap". The B&J type is in a sealed screw lid type container and kind of like a cake the other "Pink Soap" is a liquid in a dropper bottle. The are not very expensive with both being under $5.00 USD and considering what they do for your brushes a great buy! You can search the internet or you tube on videos on how to clean your brushes but I will give you a couple of tips.

1st. When cleaning the brush either on a cake type or in your hand with a liquid type always draw the brush away from the tip, NEVER push the brush into the cleaner.

2nd. When using the cake type cleaners, after you get the majority of the paint off in your brush water, take the brush with a good amount of water still on it and work the the brush over the cake to make kind of a mushy paste of the cleaner on the brush and continue to work the brush through the cleaner until no more paint comes out then rinse it and then get some more cleaner conditioner on the brush and drawing to a tip, put the brush a away, yes with some conditioner still on it. I use the liquid type(Pink Soap) for this step. Anyway I hope this is understandable, if not like I said earlier look for videos on youtube about cleaning brushes and you will get the idea. I just started doing this but I am told it will help eliminate the brush tips from curling or splitting.

15mm Prussian Army Commission unit 1 final

So this unit is finished with the exception of flocking the bases. I need to ask the owner what he wants in the way of flocking. I have mounted these on Wargames Accessories 3/4"x1" metal stands like I do with my own before mounting the figures. I also attach self adhesive magnetic tape to the bottom of each stand so that when transporting them you put a metal plate in the bottom of the box and then just put the miniatures on it and they stay put. I use this stand size so that it can be played with either AOE or Lasalle, for Lassale you just use 2 bases to represent one base. So next I have 38 AB Prussians from my collection that I got in a trade deal that are late Prussians when I was expecting Jena Prussians. So now they have a new home as I did not know what to do with them. Gary you will need to purchase separate AB command figures for this unit along with the 4 skirmishers as I do not have those. So for the next unit I will have 29 to paint. Anyway here is the first batch and if my research is correct they will be the 10th Silesian Infantry regiment.

Okay so I have been doing mainly historicals over the past year with the odd Warmachine painting session or game. Anyway When I went into the FLGS to pickup my commission work I got to speaking with my friend the owner and he was raving about 8th ed. Warhammer. So yea I got it and the startings of a Skaven army. So here are some pics of the first piece a Skaven Doom Wheel. This is a very nice kit, goes together well and has great details. Later I will also post up pics of the Skaven Screaming bell when I get it further on like this one. This is just about done with a few odd bits and bobs to still paint but I think it is coming along quite well if I do say so. So here it is... Sorry Gary I got drawn into this and have not finished the first battalion of Prussians, but hell it is your fault telling me how great 8th ed was...etc etc etc... LOL I will finish them first thing tomorrow morning, I promise... Cheers...

Okay here is the 3rd update for this first unit, damn I wish my camera was better! Anyway I have the facings, collars, shoulder boards and cuffs painted, I am debating on detailing the cuffs with white strips across the yellow but not sure on this historically. This unit if what I found on the internet is correct is painted up as the 10th Prussian Line Infantry(Silesian) I believe. Also I did discover that regardless of the unit the facings on Prussian Line infantry were always red. So Gary here they are I hope you are liking them, again I am sorry for the crappy pictures...

Ok so I got to working on these guys and I do have to say I was disappointed with the detail on these guys very subtle and hard to pick out if it even exists, I am definitely AB spoiled! Oh well the gentleman I am doing this commission for is going to fill out the rest of the army with AB's so those will be a ton easier and better to paint!!! I can't wait to get them and start working on them. He is going to be starting with his artillery batteries then on to infantry and cav. So anyway here is the first battalion, I have not decided yet as to which unit these will be that is the reason for the collars, cuffs and facings are not done yet, also there is some touch up still to do and other bits and bobs like the muskets. 15mm Napoleonics Collection so far, well almost all of it... ;)

My camera was not cooperating so I wanted to warn you up front and apologize for the crappy pics. Anyway this is almost my entire 15mm Napoleonics collection that I have painted up so far. I painted all of these this year so as you can see I have been busy. I still have a ton more to paint but I will get it done some day. Anyway on the Left are my French and on the Right nearest to the camera are my British and farther back on the Right are my Jena Prussians. Yea I know Jena Prussians together on the same field? Probably never happened historically but I have mainly been focusing on my French and only until recently started back on my allies that being the Jena Prussians. Originally I started painting up the Brits but than moved on to the French after finishing the first 6 British Infantry units and the artillery. So here they are...

New Commision 15mm Mini Figs Late Prussian army

I just got a commission from the FLGS owner here in town that happens to be one of my best friends. Anyway the first batch I will be doing up is 3 Prussian Infantry Units and 1 Landwehr unit. These are to be based as Lasalle units. These from the my closest guess would be mini-fig figures. After these are done I have some Old Glory and Essex Cavalry that he may want from my stock to be painted up. I discovered that the cavalry that he had gotten were mostly French and or Early Jena Prussian Hussars etc. So he will need more cav. Also I pointed him in the direction of AB's website for Artillery and showed him what he should get, that being 2 Horse battery's, 2 Foot battery's and 1 Heavy battery. Also I have a bag of AB Prussian generals that I had doubles of that he may want for me to paint up for him. So here are the pics of the figs cleaned up and re-primed black, they were mounted as they are but will be rebased after painting. Cheers Gary check back here regularly for updates...

28mm Warlord Games ECW Royalist Dragoons update #1

Well I got kind of burnt out on painting 15mm mini's, so I started working on my English Civil War(ECW) mini's. I have been putting this off for some time but decided it was either these or my Perry Hussars and given that I have plenty painted in Napoleonics for a while I thought I had better start painting these guys. Anyway here they are, I have done 3 colors on most of what you see here but I am not seeing the contrast that I would like. I am using Foundry paints for most all of these guys as I think their paints are brilliant especially for 28mm stuff. These are the command figures for the unit by the way and come with both mounted and dismounts for the unit. Note that they can be either painted Royalist or Parliamentarians, I chose the earlier for now and for the 2nd box I have they will be that later So here they are, what do you think so far...

So in a trade I did with Galpy, I got these guys among other stuff. Anyway these guys are my officer corps for my Jena Prussians. These AB mini's are absolutely brilliant! I think from now on I will only "buy" AB's any more. You may still see other stuff on here but anything that is not AB is generally from old purchases or trades. Anyway here they are, please note that I still have to paint the horses on some of these.

Well I think they are done other than maybe painting on some buttons and flocking the bases. These AB Prussian Cuirassiers were a lot of fun to paint! I think in the beginning I was a little off when I started working on them but I came around a bit after starting, so I think they turned out ok. They could have been better, and I may do some more touch ups here and there later but right now I am just trying to get my Jena Prussians on the field. Cheers

15mm Essex Jena Prussian Musketeers Nr.10 Wedel

Anyway I had a hard time with the Prussian blue, I was initially using Vallejo Dark Prussian Blue, but it was so dark it was almost black, to I put a 2nd coat on of Foundry Deep Blue Light 20c. I have seen others use an almost blue-ish grey color, so I picked up Reaper Pro Paint Winter Blue as a test to see how this goes with the Vallejo Dark Prussian Blue base, Oh well what do you all think?

15mm AB Jena Prussian 2nd Cuirassiers work in progress

Well I have been busy in between surfing the net looking for employment and driving around looking, I have been working on these. They are part of the Prussians I got in trade from Galpy. These guys are painted up to be the 2nd Cuirassiers. I like the looks of this unit and I believe the only Cuirassiers regiment to have a yellow and red tunic. I am not too happy with them at the moment, I don't know if it me or my brushes or a combination there of but I just don't think they look all that good. What do you guys think? Please I need some advise on finishing these guys up... Anyway here they are.

15mm Essex Jena Prussian Musketeers Nr.11 Schöning

I just got these mounted on their bases after painting them up. I am going to look for areas that need touch ups then flock them and clear coat them. The unit I chose was Nr.11 Schöning I just liked the some what blood red color that their facings are. I have 4 more of these Essex Jena Prussian musketeer units to paint along with 3 Grenadier units and the I have some 2 AB Jena Prussian Dragoons units and 2 Large unit Kurassier units to paint up as well. The large unit being a Lasalle unit that has a (+) next to it in the book so they are 18 in the unit instead of 12. I got the AB's in a trade with my friend Galpy in NZ. Anyway here is Jena Prussian Musketeer Unit Nr.11 Schöning.

Finished 15/18mm AB French Imperial Guard

Okay, they are finally done! I had been nursing them for far too long, but with the arrival or pending arrival of all of the stuff I got coming from Galpy they had to get finished. Now on to AB French foot and horse artillery batteries. I have one foot, one horse and one reserve battery that just arrived from AB USA. These are the Lasalle unit packs that they sell. They only come with 1/3 to 1/2 the limbers/caissons that are needed to I will have to order a mix of six more limbers and caissons to finish these guys out. I will post starting pictures of them tomorrow hopefully. Here come the Guard! Please let me know what you think...

15mm Ab French Imperial Guard #2 Last 2 sticks

Okay so here are the last 2 sticks of 16 AB French Imperial Guard to do. I have been trying to finish these up as I just got a very good sized order in of more AB's from a trade that I just did with Galpy in New Zealand and want to move onto them, I will post more about them later. Also I can not wait until my new eye glasses come in, I went in about a week ago to the VA(Veterans Admin. USA) for an eye check and my yearly prescription, which I have put off for 3 yrs. Anyway the new glasses will be here in about 2 weeks or so, hopefully they will help my painting as I have a lot of difficulties of late trying to paint and only see stuff that needs to be touched up on these after I look at the pictures. Later today hopefully I will be posting up the final result for this unit. After painting AB, Essex, Old Glory and Mini-figs I have to say that the AB's are the best followed up by the Mini-Figs and the Old Glory and lastly Essex. Simply on size and detail of the figures. The AB's have so much detail to them they just beg to be painted "properly" which is an absolute joy to do. Anyway here they are.

Great book set on the Napoleonic French

I had finally received the Andre' Jouineau book on the French Hussars 1st-8th Regiments from 1804-1812. There are at least 8 books in this set that I am aware of, with this book being the 7th, the 8th book covers the French Hussars 9th-14th Regiments, they may also have books that cover infantry but I am not aware of them. From what I have seen to date these are the BEST books on French Napoleonic Cavalry out there as far as having plates goes anyways. I will post a couple of pictures below showing the cover and 1 page set to show you what this book as absolutely filled with, when I said filled with, I mean it! Almost every page has 3-4 plates on it Excuse me I think I am having a moment...LOL Anyway these are great books, they cost $22.95 USD here, I do not know if they go for less elsewhere but even at that price they are brilliant! If you have Napoleonic French Hussars that need painting and want reference material for them, these are a definite must have. UPDATE, I have since discovered that he has done several books on the French Imperial Guard, several campaign books including the battles of Jena and Auerstaedt, given that I am doing Jena Prussians, I see I will have to order that one as well...

Again sorry for the crappy pics, but I am just not that great of a photog and my camera isnt that great either. So add two crappy things together and well you get crap... ;)

28mm Perry French Hussars have finally arrived!!!

Ok so I just went by my FLGS and found that the Perry French Hussars that I had ordered and paid for sometime ago had finally arrived!!! WOOT!!! They are Brilliant!!! There are 4 horse sprues, 1 command sprue, 4 Hussar trooper sprues, 1 base sprue and a beautiful, I mean BEAUTIFUL foldout covering the 1st-14th Regiments, Hussar-guides d' Augereau as well as the Deaths Head Hussars(1792), Jerome Napoleon Hussars and the Gardes d' Honneur 1813-1815! With all of that you can make 14 Hussars per box including the command. I got 3 boxes of them, I had ordered 4 but they are just hard to get around here, probably everywhere but the UK. In my opinion this is the best box they have put out to date! I think for me the French Dragoons they came out with a few months ago would rate a close 2nd! Anyway here are some pictures of the Sprues, box and that brilliant pamphlet!

And lastly the pamphlet showing all of the Hussar regiments as well as a couple of flags! They did cost a little more than what I paid per box for the Dragoons, I do not know if this was due to a price increase are they just cost more, but even @ $38.00 they are worth it!
