Question: The Army Painter Quick Shade

I was wondering if anyone has used either of these "Dips" and the results that they got.  I have the Soft Tone and the Dark Tone, I got the Dark Tone on accident as I wanted the Strong Tone but did not realize that I picked up the Dark one until after I had gotten it home and had opened it.  Anyway at $30.00 a can I was not going to spend another $30.00 until I found of if this "stuff" works or not.  I have not tested it as I do not want to ruin a figure that I have spent time working on.  Anyway if any of you have used any of these "Dips" please let me know how they worked.  I can send you a PM to get picks if you have any.

Cheers...

  1. Hello again, I've just done a couple of tests using both stains. My choice would be the dark tone for red coats. I'm about to try the same test on French line so I'll keep you posted on the results.

  6. Yea for dipping I think it would not work but if brushed it might. I just don't want to be the guinea pig...;)

  7. I prefer the dark tone also. Unlike the instructions on the label, I get better results brushing on the "dip" vs dipping the figures into the tin. You get a lot more control with a brush and there isn't as much wastage.

When brushing - look for areas where the dip may be pooling and pull out the excess with the bristles.

I've been told you can get similar results using wood stain but haven't tried myself.

    Good luck

  8. Used the Strong Tone on some 28mm Khaki Uniformed Brits for NW Frontier and some Pathans. It came out great. Highly recommended. I used both methods, brushing and dip. Dipping was easier, but you still have to brush some off. Tried it on some Napoleonic French and didn't work as well. Maybe I need the Dark Tone for those.
