Damn this camera, no matter how I try to do the lighting I just can not get them to come out right! Anyway I hope these pictures turned out okay??? I still have some final touch up's to do but they are almost finished.
Let me know what you think... I shamelessly copied what the owner of Napoleonic Adventures did as far as lay out as it just looked "right"... The center mini is the same but the rest are different, just painted somewhat alike... Anyway is the lighting okay on this?

Hello Razor:
ReplyDeleteThe pictures aren't too bad; I think you may need another light - it's best to use at least two lamps/lights photographing minis indoors. I've yet to paint any 15/18mm so not sure of the technique, but it appears you are using a similar technique as I used on the Victrix Highlanders - basically using the base coat of black for shading/blacklining. Look good. I think you could dry-brush some of the groundwork - to vary the depth - maybe some sand and gray - not too much, but just a bit here and there. Regards, Dean
Thanks, yes you are right I may need another light, I am using 2 now but a third can't hurt. As to the mini, yes using a black base coat, then try to black line it as much as possible when needed and then use 2 coats of paint, the last lighter than the first in this case etc. As to the ground I used good 'ol California dirt, which has a lot of clay in it. I have never tried this before but thought it would look good with the Silfor tufts. As to dry brushing it, I have not painted it and I do not know how I would dry brush real dirt...lol Thanks I will do test on something else with "dirt" and see what I get. Thanks! :)

Hi Razor,
ReplyDeletelooks good, nicely based too. My only comment is not to mix horse poses. I think Ney is galloping/rearing up the others are walking?
Cheers
Ken
Thanks! :) yes the Ney model could probably be either galloping or rearing up, so if he is rearing up, I did not want to put 3 horses rearing up hence the same different poses. Thanks though good point and yes I do nee to pay attention to that. Thanks again for the comments, I really do appreciate them.
